Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

What do American Baptists believe?

Answer:

American Baptists are an independent-minded people. While no binding statement of Baptist beliefs exist, there is considerable agreement among us about the foundations of our faith:

1. We worship the triune God of the Bible, who is most clearly revealed in the incarnate Son, Jesus Christ.

2. The atoning death and resurrection of Jesus bring forgiveness of sins, release from condemnation, and reconciliation with God.

3. The Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God. It is our final authority and is to be interpreted responsibly under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The "What We Believe" link will take you to a page with more information and Scripture references. Also, we have two brochures in the church office that explain more about American Baptist beliefs.

Question:

What should I wear to church?

Answer:

WHBC is a "blue jean" church--you won't see many suits here. Wear what's comfortable for you.

Question:

How long is the worship service?

Answer:

Our morning service, which starts at 10:15, lasts about an hour. We sing five or six contemporary choruses with our praise band, then Pastor Vetter speaks for about thirty minutes.

The evening service, which starts at 6:45, is an hour and fifteen minutes. After music and a message we share prayer requests and then spend time in small groups praying for those needs.
